This policy describes exactly what MediaDock by MikaiL (the “extension”) does with information. It was written from the extension’s actual source code and manifest, and it describes the version submitted to the Chrome Web Store (v1.0.0).
- MediaDock has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no telemetry. The developer receives no data from the extension.
- Your settings are saved with Chrome’s extension storage (
chrome.storage.sync). Chrome may sync them across your signed-in browsers. - When you use a download feature, your browser requests the image directly from the site that hosts it (for YouTube thumbnails:
img.youtube.com). These requests go from your browser to that site, not through the developer. - MediaDock does not load or run remotely hosted code.
1. Introduction
MediaDock by MikaiL is a browser extension that provides media-related tools: Picture-in-Picture (PiP), Auto Scroll (automatically continuing to the next video), a preferred YouTube video-quality setting, and downloading of the original thumbnail of a video or of images on a web page. It is developed and operated by MikaiL Hossain Imran (MikailLab), mikaillab.com.
2. Information We Collect
Information stored locally in your browser
MediaDock saves only your preferences, using chrome.storage.sync:
- Theme (light or dark)
- Default image format (JPG, PNG or WEBP), “ask where to save”, and “add timestamp to filename”
- Which right-click menu items are shown
- Auto Picture-in-Picture on/off, Auto Scroll (auto-advance) on/off
- Preferred YouTube video quality (Auto or 144p–2160p)
MediaDock does not store the pages you visit, your browsing history, page contents, the images or thumbnails you download, or any personal information.
Information processed on your device while a feature runs
To work, the extension briefly reads certain information in your browser. It is used only to perform the action you asked for and is not saved or sent to the developer:
- The address of the current tab — to recognise a YouTube video (its video ID) and supported video sites when you open the popup.
- Image addresses and a page’s preview image — read from the page when you scan a page or download a thumbnail/image.
- Video state on the page (playing, ended, position, whether it is in PiP) — used by Auto PiP and Auto Scroll, and to apply your chosen video quality on YouTube.
- Image data you choose to download — fetched, optionally converted to another format in memory, and saved with your browser’s download function.
Information transmitted externally
MediaDock does not send any data to a server operated by the developer. The only network requests it makes are the following, all made directly by your browser. The extension’s own requests are sent without cookies or credentials; in the fallback case where a site blocks direct fetching, the extension hands the address to Chrome’s download function, and Chrome fetches the file as it would any download:
- YouTube thumbnails. When you open the popup on a YouTube video page, the extension requests thumbnail files from
img.youtube.com(a Google/YouTube image server) to find the highest-resolution one, and requests it again when you press Download. The request contains the video ID in the address, plus the standard information any browser sends when loading an image (such as your IP address and browser user-agent). This is the same kind of request your browser makes when a page displays that image. - Images and thumbnails from other sites. When you download an image, or a Vimeo/Dailymotion/other page thumbnail, your browser requests it from the address where it is hosted, exactly as if you had opened it. Which site receives the request depends on the image you choose.
- Links you click. The popup contains links to other MikailLab websites. They open only if you click them and are governed by those sites’ own policies.
3. How We Use Information
Settings are used to remember your choices. Tab addresses, page images and video state are used only to detect supported videos, list or download the images you request, and run Picture-in-Picture, Auto Scroll and video-quality control. Nothing is used for advertising, profiling, analytics or any purpose unrelated to these features.
4. Data Storage
- Settings are stored with Chrome’s
chrome.storage.sync. If you are signed in to Chrome with sync enabled, Chrome may synchronise this small settings data between your devices through your Google Account; this is done by Chrome, and the developer cannot access it. - MediaDock does not use its own servers, databases, cookies, or any other storage of your data.
- Downloaded images are saved to your computer through your browser’s normal download function.
5. Data Sharing
The developer does not receive, sell, rent or share your data, and the extension contains no analytics, advertising or third-party tracking services. The only third parties involved are the websites your browser contacts to fetch images you asked for (see section 2), and Google in its capacity as the provider of Chrome and Chrome sync.
6. Third-Party Websites
MediaDock works with websites such as YouTube, and can run on other sites you visit. Those websites are operated by third parties and have their own privacy policies and terms of service; MediaDock does not control their data practices. You are responsible for using MediaDock in line with the terms of the sites you use it on and with the rights of content owners.
7. Permissions
MediaDock requests only the following permissions, and each is used for the feature shown:
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
storage | Saves your preferences (theme, formats, toggles, preferred quality). |
scripting | Runs the extension’s own scripts in a page: the Picture-in-Picture toggle, Auto PiP, Auto Scroll, and the YouTube video-quality setting. |
downloads | Saves thumbnails and images to your computer, including the “choose where to save” option and a fallback when a site blocks direct fetching. |
contextMenus | Adds the right-click “MediaDock” items (save image, copy image URL, download thumbnail, Picture-in-Picture). |
clipboardWrite | Copies an image’s URL to your clipboard when you choose “Copy Image URL”. |
Access to all websites (*://*/*) | MediaDock’s tools work on whichever site you are viewing: finding and downloading images or a video’s thumbnail from any site, fetching those images from the servers that host them, and Picture-in-Picture / Auto Scroll on videos on any site. YouTube-specific features (video quality, YouTube Shorts scrolling, YouTube thumbnails) act only on YouTube. The extension reads a page only to carry out a feature you use and does not collect or transmit browsing data. |
8. Data Security
Because MediaDock keeps no data on servers and sends nothing to the developer, there is no developer-side database to protect. Requests for thumbnails and images are made with your browser’s standard networking (using HTTPS where the source site provides it); the extension’s own requests omit cookies. MediaDock does not add its own encryption; it relies on the security of your browser and the sites you visit. The extension uses no remote code: all of its code is included in the package you install.
9. Data Retention and Deletion
Your settings remain until you change them, clear the extension’s data, or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling MediaDock removes its stored settings from your browser; copies that Chrome sync keeps for your Google Account are managed by Chrome, and you can control or clear them in your Chrome sync settings. Downloaded files are ordinary files on your computer that you can delete at any time. The developer holds no data about you to delete.
10. Children’s Privacy
MediaDock is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children. It does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
If MediaDock’s functionality or data practices change, this policy will be updated and the “Last updated” date below will change.
